* SOME of the earliest footage of Hills Hoists, backyards and barbecues, not to mention feral cars and tidal waves that attack Adelaide, receive a rare airing in a cinematic retrospective which opens at The Museum Of Modern Art in New York today. Expatriate cartoonists, writers and film-makers will gather in happy awe at their favourite Manhattan cafes to discuss Strictly Oz: A History of Australian Film. The event covers pop stars from the modern mainframe like Gillian Armstrong, Peter Weir, Fred Schepisi, Jane Campion, to pioneers like Charles Chauvel and Paulette McDonagh. Also the work of Michael Powell and other geniuses in exile. After the raging success of a similar retrospective staged in Paris a couple of years ago, this one has already been booked for a season in LA in January. Get ready for a remake of The Cars That Ate Paris starring the cast of Melrose Place.
